Why Flora walks away
Flora’s relationship with Luke starts as a secret office romance between a creative director and the rookie he once told to quit. Pressure at work, Luke’s controlling streak and a run of misunderstandings eventually break them apart. Flora changes her number, cuts off contact and goes home to Harbin.
The four years apart
In Harbin, Flora builds her own events business from scratch. Luke uses the separation to face his own flaws. When they meet again, the power balance has changed: Flora is no longer his subordinate, and he has to earn her trust from zero. He keeps showing up, quietly uses his industry contacts to help her struggling company, and even offers to work as her unpaid assistant.
Sun Yuanzhu’s storyline
Content note: this section discusses suicide.
Alongside the romance, the show follows Sun Yuanzhu, Flora’s flatmate and the older brother of her best friend Sun Yu. He struggles with depression and dies by suicide. The loss changes Sun Yu deeply, and many viewers found it the most affecting part of the series.
The proposal
In the final episode, Luke builds a pop-up “Museum of Time and Eternity” that recreates their shared memories. He proposes with a necklace made from the “L” typewriter key from the day they first met, and Flora accepts.
How the ending differs from the novel
The drama is adapted from 早春晴朗 by 姑娘别哭 (Gu Niang Bie Ku). The novel goes on to their wedding and a child. The series stops at the proposal, which gives it a slightly more open, hopeful ending.
